That devotional message ties in nicely with the intentions for the Celebration of Easter. Of course, the correlation between the song and Easter is far from literal. God is Perfection, before all. One’s love for another is a journey. And, John Legend’s devotion to his wife is admirable. That is my interpretative appreciation for the ballad.
As the most significant liturgical celebration of the religious calendar year for Christians, Easter serves as a renewal of Faith for the prayerful. Easter is the hope of the future for those who seek its promised salvation. The gates were opened for the imperfections of the human soul. If passage was granted for perfection, no human would enter Heaven. Instead, love and mercy is the hope for the imperfection of mankind.
I live and hope by Faith. I have Faith in the imperfections that make me weak. That awareness inspires me to strive. It is the devotion of Faith in love that gives this music even higher meaning for me, especially during this time of year. Even though I am constantly professing my love for my wife, I will always find as many ways as I can to express my devotion to her, in the same manner I do to express my devotion to my Faith in the promise that Easter inspires.
Happy Easter, My Love. Happy Easter to all who celebrate the most joyous of religious occasions.
