Gina J of MK-8 fame!
“It’s been more than two years since you’d requested me to cover a song from Journey. You said it didn’t matter which song because you enjoy all of their incredible music. I chose to cover “Faithfully” simply because I have never forgotten your request and you would never let me forget! LOL! But really, I also love the music from Journey and I’ve lacked the confidence to sing one of their smash hits … until now. Somehow, I felt that THE time had come. Like all of the covers I post, I’m singing with all of my heart. I hope you approve what I’ve done with a precious song from the 80s.”
I have to express that for every song I cover I gain a deeper and greater appreciation for the incomparable talents of each vocalist. Steve Perry. I don’t have to write anything further than state his name. Arnel Pineda. Wow. Arnel Pineda is a remarkable man with a remarkable life story.
Every song has its own story to tell. My challenge for each cover begins with finding my own story within the music. It has nothing do with thinking. Only when I feel a connection with the music can I even begin to develop my own interpretation. That’s how the art of music works. It’s ALL about passion. I had to overcome my insecurities before I could even begin to cover a Journey song. For better or for worse, I’m very happy that I did. I’m thanking Gina J for being my inspiration for overcoming those insecurities.
“Thanks Gina! But please, I’m not sure if I can cover another Journey hit. I might have to seek an out-of-body experience in order to make that happen! LOLOL! XD”
"Faithfully" is a popular power ballad by the band Journey. It was released on April 16, 1983 and is also the second single from their album Frontiers. “Faithfully” was written by Jonathan Cain. It peaked at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving the band their second consecutive top twenty hit from Frontiers. While the song was relatively successful on the charts, it has gone on to become one of their most recognizable songs, and has enjoyed lasting popularity.
