In October of 1998, when I was courting a beautiful woman, THE woman I needed for the rest of my life, I sang a version of this convincing song, “Let It Be Me”. It’s my favorite version reproduced by the incomparable Bobby Caldwell. I sang “Let It Be Me” to her and it worked … she became my wife. She still is and will always be.
I couldn’t find a backing track in the style of Bobby Caldwell, but I did find a great duet version made popular by Jackson Browne and Timothy Schmit. I seasoned their version with the vocal stylings of Bobby Caldwell and I’m giving you my personal take of this timeless classic. From Wikipedia: "Let It Be Me" is a popular song originally published in 1955 as "Je t'appartiens". The score was written and first recorded by Gilbert Bécaud. The lyrics were penned in French by Pierre Delanoë. The English language version used lyrics by Mann Curtis and was performed in 1957 by Jill Corey in the television series Climax!. Corey's version, with orchestration by Jimmy Carroll, was released as a single and was moderately successful. The most popular version of "Let It Be Me" was released in 1960 by The Everly Brothers. It reached 7th position on the Billboard Hot 100. The harmony arrangement of this version was often emulated in subsequent remakes.
